W e have had a long night and a busy day so let me fill everyone in. The shots that I was giving Doug to help promote cell growth has promoted a lot of pain in his chest and lower back although this is common and can be a good sign it is still very painful for Doug. Last night around 6pm he started having chest pain and by 9pm was in severe pain I called in and they said it was most likely from the shots and that I could give him some pain meds. At midnight I gave him more pain medicine and more at three am still none of this was helping. I called in again and they said I could try the morphine and if it did not work then to bring him in this was around 4a.m. Praise the Lord it helped and we both got a little rest. When he woke up the pain was getting stronger again we went in to see the doc for our appointment and while we were there the pain caused him to get sick. The doctor went over the results from the test and said everything was turning out good but they still do not know what is going on. The bone marrow biopsy that they did last week showed low cell growth. A person that is where Doug is after transplant should have a cell growth rate of 40 to 60 percent Doug has less then 5%. They did blood work yesterday to find out why we should know in a week or less. The big question is are the cells Doug's or the donor's. The Doctor was very honest and said this is the hard part because there are so many things going on and none of them have to do with the cancer or transplant it is more on treating the damage that was done to the body while fighting the leukemia. The Doctor is talking regularly to both the cardiology and the kidney docs. They are also looking into doing a procedure that will drain the fluid off of Doug's lungs to hopefully help him feel better. So as you can tell there is a lot going on but still no definite answers. Thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray for answers. In the morning Doug and I will go back to the hospital for him to have photopherisis to treat the G.V.H.D. of his skin. Doug did not have dialysis today because of the pain and vomiting. he is resting now.
Love to all,
Kelly

ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. Mary and I have had Doug and the whole family in prayer today. We prayed yesterday at Grace Baptist Tabernacle in Ft. Scott, KS too.
